When looking for a Golden Retriever puppy or adult dog, it's essential to choose a breeder who prioritizes the health, temperament, and overall well-being of their dogs.

Ask if BOTH of the parents of the puppies have the following health screenings:

• Hips: OFA or PennHIP report at 24+ months, with PennHIP results in an approved database.
• Elbows: OFA report at 24+ months.
• Hearts: ACVIM Cardiology Diplomat report at 12+ months in an approved database.
• Eyes: ACVO Diplomat report within 12 months pre-breeding; yearly exams required; results recorded if recertified.
• DNA tests are recommended for diseases like prcd-PRA, GR-PRA1, GR-PRA2, NCL, and ichthyosis 1 & 2. Decisions should be based on the seriousness of the disease, test reliability, breed prevalence, and pedigree analysis. One parent who is a carrier or affected should ONLY be bred to a clear.

We also recommend that you look for breeders that have AKC delineations such as AKC breeder of merit and AKC breeder with heart.
